The Highway

my heart a highway
How tire marks adorn it
From relationship drive-bys
Often times just a stop to refill shallow emotional tanks
But this tracks say they were here
Leaving behind emotions thick like auto fumes in the still early morning air
Some came along with carriages full
Others empty booths to cart away loot
Its shocking I still posses a heart
for a piece of it eroded every time they drove by
And when the tears rain down,
They collect in the gashes made by tire marks
Until the clouds give way for the sun to dry them out
But then the scars remain
So do my insecurities
